Kelp is a seaweed that belongs to the brown algae, specifically the order Laminariales.
There are about 30 different species and it grows along the cooler coastal regions of the world, mainly in the North Pacific. Kelp algae are natural sources of organic iodine and a popular product in naturopathy. Iodine plays a major role in this and is an essential trace element which, among other things, supports the function of the thyroid and thus influences many important processes in the body. A lack of iodine can trigger an underactive thyroid in the body and thus negatively affect hormone production. Fatigue or a slowed metabolism can be the result.
